Aanya Rao
Trained as an architect, Aanya leads our India and Bhutan work. She keeps a small library of regional textiles at the Delhi office and routinely re-walks the Heritage Circuit she first designed in 2011.
JourneyZones was started in 2009 by three friends who had spent a decade working inside larger travel firms and wanted to design the way they had always wanted to — slowly, personally and in writing.
Each enquiry is owned by a single journey designer from the first call to the day you return. Vehicles, guides, restaurants, even the hotel rooms — we name them all in advance and confirm them in writing. There are no surprise upgrades, no on-the-day swaps, no one phoning to upsell.
If something changes — a road closure, a festival we forgot to plan around — we tell you before we adjust the day. That is the only promise we make and the only one that matters.
The word "curated" has lost meaning. We use it only where it still applies — when a journey has been shaped by a person who has walked the route themselves.
Our itineraries almost never include more than two stops a day. Rest is part of the experience — so is a long, unscheduled afternoon.
We work with a small bench of naturalists, archaeologists, cooks, weavers and boatmen. Their names are in your itinerary, not a brand.
We keep the team deliberately small so each designer carries their own roster of returning guests.

Hiro designs our Japan and wider Asia itineraries, drawing on twelve years with a Tokyo-based cultural tour firm. He is a registered tea ceremony student and a fairly patient birder.
Idris leads our North Africa and Mediterranean routes, having spent a decade guiding food-led trips out of Marrakech. He speaks fluent Darija, passable French and too many Italian pasta shapes.
“Our promise is small. We will name every hotel, every guide, every transfer before you fly. If we cannot keep that promise on a particular day, we will tell you in advance.”— JourneyZones founding note
